Soba Old Boys AGM: GOVERNMENTS ENCOURAGED TO SUPPORT TECHNICAL EDUCATION

Governments in Nigeria have again been tasked to prioritize science and technical education for the attainment of technological education.
An educationist and old student of Government Technical College Soba, Alhaji Abdu Gambo made the call at this year’s Annual General Meeting AGM of Old Boys Association.
He said in view of the importance and technology played world over, there is the pressing need for effective government’s support in that direction, to achieve the desired results.
In a remark the out going National President of the Soba Old Boys Association, Muhammad Ashafa stated that the objective of the association is to foster ever lasting unity among it members, and to support the body morally and financially.
In his acceptance speech, at the AGM, the newly elected National President of the Soba Old Boys Association, Alhaji Abdullahi Zubairu Sarkin Fada pointed out that the association required the support and assistance of all members, to function effectively and to assist the Government Technical College Soba.
He also of the zeal and commitment of the new Executive Council to support the management to bring changes and positive development to the School.
Speaking through a representative, the Sarkin Soba, Alhaji Sani Haladu, enjoined the Soba Old Boys Association members to remain united and committed towards contributing to the upliftment of the institution in whatever way possible.
The former National President of the association Alhaji Sanusi Mai Kwalta assured of his resolved to continue to offer contributions and advice for the upliftment of one of the oldest technical Institutions in Nigeria.
He equally advised governments in the country to give priority to technical education to enhance technological development.
Addressing the Annual General Meeting AGM of the Soba Old Boys Association, Barden Keratriyar Katsina, Alhaji Murtala Safana described the occasion as historic in the life of the institution.
He appealed to government to do everything possible to address major problems affecting the technical college to enhance teaching and learning.
Alhaji Murtala Safana noted that science and technology education in the country need holistic government approach in terms of effective funding to achieve the desired result.
He then admonished the new leadership of the Soba Old Boys Association to unite and contribute positively to the upliftment of the technical Institutions.
Also addressing the august AGM meeting the Principal of Government Technical College Soba, Mallam Ibrahim Tanimu Waziri commended the old students association for renovating the school Drawing Room, Boreholes, supplying of drawing instruments, tools and equipment for the workshops.
He identified challenges of the college to include uncompleted perimeter fence, need for installation of 3KVA
transformer,which has been supplied to the college by the state government for over a year now, without any action.
According to the principal the school has made adequate students seats with less than one hundred and twenty pieces available.
Also commenting on the occasion the Public Relation Officer PRO of the Soba Old Boys Association, Engineer Saleh Aliyu appreciated all in attendance at the Annual General Meeting AGM, saying it is an avenue for promoting unity and progress of the technical Institution.
He reaffirmed their commitment to continue to assist the college to function effectively to achieve the desired result.
Engineer Saleh further assured of their support of achieving a desirable character and functional education for students of the college.
At the end of the Annual General Meeting new officials to run the affairs of the Soba Old Boys Association have been elected, with Alhaji Abdullahi Zubairu Sarkin Fada emerging as National President, Zailani Ahmed Babale Vice President one and Umar Dahiru Maigana Vice President two
Others elected included Aliyu Adamu as General Secretary, Ahmad Muhammad Adamu Assistant General Secretary, Hamza Ibrahim Jamoh Treasurer and Alhaji Mainasara Idris Financial Secretary.
Also elected were Barrister Aminu Sani as Legal Adviser and Engineer Saleh Aliyu Public Relation Officer PRO.
During the occasion Sabo Babayaro was elected as Auditor one. Mr Erin Folami Olu Emmanuel Auditor two, Aliyu Zubairu Auditor three and Ibrahim Kofar Bai Katsina Public Relations Officer PRO two.
